Kelman plays a critical role in the digital evolution as head of national brokerage Redfin, which offers some of the most popular consumer real estate search tools available. The well-funded, Seattle-based firm’s real estate model offers reduced commissions to clients and pays many of its agents a salary instead of commissions. Although it has been relatively quiet in 2016 and speculation about an impending IPO still swirls, the firm projected a 2016 annual revenue of $200 million, approximately 50 percent above its 2015 total. Annual sales are over $9 billion and 17,000 transactions.
Prior to joining Redfin in 2005, Kelman worked in various leadership roles at the portal software company Plumtree Software, which he co-founded in 1997 and helped guide toward IPO in 2002. An outspoken and transparent leader, Kelman regularly contributes to Redfin’s blog and speaks at national industry events.
