Do You Have Mental Toughness?
Our physical condition provides the energy we need to press ahead in the face of challenges. But it’s our mental toughness that keeps our mind going, even when our energy begins to run out and out body wants to quit.
Mental toughness is key ingredient in creating sufficient willpower to press forward to finish the job. Here is how I remember what willpower is:
- Your Intention – the will in willpower, which is represented by your tenacity to stay with a task until it’s completed.
- Your Effort – the power in willpower, how much of which you need to determine is enough to get the job done without wasting your effort.
- Your Courage – the willingness to withstand fear and do what you need to do without responding anxiously, becoming overwhelmed or depressed, which will sap your energy and lead to hopelessness.
Dale Carnegie said it well: “Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”
